Back again for your weekly dose of hip hop to keep you moving through those grinding training sessions. This Flyday we are headed back 1998 and the release of 2Pac’s greatest hits album.

Tupac Amaru Shakur is an actor and rapper, arguably one of the greatest artists of all time. Whether or not you think he is the greatest rapper of all time, you can’t deny is that he is the most influential. If you look at look at hip-hop and urban fashion today, you can hear and see 2Pac’s influence.

In the infancy of his career he toured with the rap group Digital Underground as a roadie, backup dancer and MC. From there, Tupac would go on to create on of the most illustrious solo rap careers of all time. Much of Tupac’s family (including his mother and father), were members of the Black Panther Party, so his lyrics were heavily driven by social and political injustices happening in inner city black communities, creating a gritty and raw edge to his early solo work. His later career is most remembered for his participation in the heated East Coast Vs. West Coast beef, most notably between members of Death Row Record (Tupac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog and Suge Knight’s label) and Bad Boy Records (Notorious B.I.G. & Puff Daddy aka Diddy’s record label). This beef is believed to have been the eventual motive behind the murder of Tupac. He was gunned down on September 7th, 1996, by a drive by shooter. To this day the shooter has never been identified. There are many conspiracies surrounding the death of Tupac: Google Tupac death conspiracy and be prepared to fall down the worm hole of paranoia.

So now I bring to you one of my personal favourite gym anthems, the previously unreleased song “Troublesome ’96” off of one of the biggest selling albums of all time, 1998’s 2Pac’s Greatest Hits. Turn this one all the way up and po’ up some pre-workout, increase the peace and increase ya weights!
